Real Madrid Baloncesto vs Virtus Bolonia – March 5, 2026

On March 5, 2026, Real Madrid Baloncesto secured a hard-fought 92–84 victory over Virtus Bologna on Matchday 30 of the EuroLeague, extending their impressive home winning streak to ten consecutive games at the Movistar Arena. Despite leading for large portions of the game, Madrid had to battle until the final minutes, producing a decisive late run to seal the win.

The game began at a high tempo, with Virtus Bologna controlling the opening minutes through an efficient offensive display. Real Madrid quickly found themselves trailing by seven points (10-17), struggling to match the Italian side’s rhythm early on. However, the momentum shifted following a timeout, as the introduction of fresh energy from the bench, combined with improved defensive intensity, allowed Madrid to disrupt Virtus’ flow. This sparked a 21-6 run, turning the deficit into a lead early in the second quarter.

From that moment, Madrid grew into the game, sharing the scoring load and improving efficiency inside the arc. Virtus remained competitive thanks largely to a standout individual performance, but Madrid maintained control heading into the break. A spectacular half-court buzzer-beater from Facundo Campazzo capped the first half, giving Madrid a 46–40 lead and energizing the home crowd.

Madrid extended their advantage to double digits early in the second half, reaching an 11-point lead as their interior dominance became evident. Despite this, Virtus Bologna refused to fade. Improved scoring near the basket and persistence on the offensive glass allowed them to close the gap and eventually level the game at 61-61. The contest became increasingly tense, with both teams trading baskets. A late three-pointer before the end of the third quarter ensured Real entered the final period with a narrow advantage.

The fourth quarter was defined by intensity and balance, as Virtus briefly took the lead and pushed Real Madrid to their limits. With the score tied at 77-77 entering the final three minutes, the outcome remained uncertain. At that crucial moment, Madrid delivered. A dominant 17-5 run in the closing minutes, which was fuelled by clutch shooting and defensive stops, ultimately secured the victory.

Mario Hezonja paced the offence with 19 points and clutch plays down the stretch. Walter Tavares controlled the paint with 14 points and five blocks, and a spark from the bench early on swung momentum in Madrid’s favour.

This was far from a comfortable win for Real Madrid Baloncesto, but it highlighted their resilience and ability to perform under pressure. After letting their lead slip late in the game, they responded with composure and quality when it mattered most. The victory not only strengthens their position in the EuroLeague standings but also reinforces their dominance at home, where they continue to be one of the toughest teams to beat.
