Real Madrid Femenino vs Real Sociedad – December 6, 2025

On December 6, 2025, Real Madrid Femenino hosted Real Sociedad at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano in front of 1,604 spectators. Before kick-off, a minute of silence was held in memory of the writer and journalist Alfonso Ussía, a great Madridista who passed away at 77.

The match also featured a tribute to the Spanish national team’s latest success: fans applauded the UEFA Women’s Nations League champions — María Méndez, Athenea del Castillo, Eva Navarro and Alba Redondo — and also honoured Edna Imade from Real Sociedad.

The early stages were balanced, with both teams creating chances but failing to find the target. The first real danger came around minute 24, when Real Sociedad’s Aiara had a shot that was fabulously saved by Madrid’s goalkeeper Misa.

The breakthrough arrived in the 43rd minute: from a corner delivered by Däbritz, Redondo attempted a header and in the ensuing scramble, defender Moraza, under pressure, diverted the ball into her own net — an own goal that put Real Madrid ahead just before half-time.

After the break, Real Madrid Femenino looked to build on its lead. In the 49th minute, Athenea had two promising shots from the side of the area — but Real Sociedad’s goalkeeper J. Arrula was alert and cleared them both.

As the minutes ticked down, both sides continued to press. Real Sociedad pushed for an equalizer, but Misa produced several high-quality saves, including in stoppage time, to keep Madrid’s advantage intact.

Real Madrid Femenino held on to win 1–0, thanks to the first-half own goal. With this result, the team continues their perfect run at home — seven wins in seven home matches so far this season. Although Real Sociedad had periods of pressure and some good moments, they could not convert chances, and Real Madrid Femenino’s defence, together with Misa in goal, proved resolute under pressure.

Given our discussion on women in sport, I wanted to share the story of a woman I know who works in the sports industry. I asked her to tell me about her role, her journey, and a professional milestone she is especially proud of.

My name is Amanda Benitez, and I am from Toronto, Canada! I proudly graduated from the Sport Management program at Brock University in June 2024. I currently work for the Toronto Blue Jays as a Stadium Tour Guide! This has been, hands down, my favourite and most rewarding job. I get to connect with guests, fans, staff, and baseball enthusiasts from all over the world, sharing unforgettable moments and delivering a top-tier experience during every single tour. With the Blue Jays making it to the World Series this year, the energy inside the Rogers Centre has been absolutely electric! Having exclusive access to the stadium during such a historic season has been incredible, and if you’re ever in Toronto and curious about the history or behind-the-scenes magic of the ballpark, I’d love to show you around!

Another passion of mine in the sports world is volunteering at the World Beach Ultimate Frisbee Tournament. Since 2022, I’ve travelled to Portimão, Portugal, each year with my family and friends to support the event through setup, scorekeeping, and all-around game-day operations. It’s genuinely one of the coolest and most life-changing experiences I’ve ever been part of. Volunteers from around the world come together for a week on the beach, and by the end, we leave not just as a team but as lifelong friends. I haven’t missed a year yet, and I don’t plan to! This year, I brought friends with me and had the best time ever. Really, what more could you ask for? Friends, sun, the beach, ultimate frisbee, and new connections around the world.

Whether it’s a packed stadium in Madrid or a buzzing tour at the Rogers Centre, women like Amanda remind us that sport thrives on dedication as much as talent. Stories like hers — and the many still out there — are part of what makes following this game so special.
